Description

Warm fritters boasting soft apple chunks enveloped in a lightly spiced batter, baked until crisp at the edges. A dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of honey elevates the sweet, homey flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking sheet with vegetable oil.
  2. In a medium bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl whisk together egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  4. Peel, core, and dice the apples into small pieces.
  5. Add diced apples to the wet mixture, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the fritters are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove from oven and let the fritters cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute apples with pears for a different flavor.
  • Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of honey.
  • Dough should be mixed until just combined to avoid tough fritters.
  • Baked fritters can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
